Travel Tails
Our research meanderings took us to Bushmills and the Giants Causeway. The whole area is much like something out of a novel. The Giants Causeway with its stop sign shaped columns reaching to the sky and like a path leading into the ocean. Lovely Bushmills, home of Bushmills Distillery and as pretty as a postcard, and a doable walk up the road, the ruin of Dunluce Castle and its tragic history. The lord and lady of the castle were having a dinner party one stormy night, when part of the cliff gave way. The whole kitchen, and everyone in it, fell to the rocks and ocean far below. After that, it was abandoned to the elements. With my innate lack of direction, I made the walk to the castle a tad longer than it should’ve been, lol. After that long walk and meandering around the ruins, we were grateful for the offer of a rideback to Bushmills. Have I mentioned, the Irish are lovely people?
We stayed at a lovely B & B at the top of a long lane. We easily walked to everything we wanted to visit from there. On either side of the lane were pastures. One with cattle, the other a few horses. We stopped to pet and feed them grass every time, and they were a curious group. One of the times that we stopped to hand out scratches and handfuls of grass, which is funny, when you think about it. They did, after all, have all the grass they could possibly want to eat. Clearly it’s true. The grass is greener on the other side of the fence, lol. Anyway, I stooped down to pick a handful of grass, and the biggest of the group chose just that moment to try and bite me! Because of lucky timing, I wasn’t bitten, and by a hair’s breadth! That’s appreciation for you.
